§ 11-56. Racing and exhibitions of acceleration.

  • (a)

    Definitions. When used in this section the following words and terms, unless the context indicates a different meaning, shall be interpreted as follows:

    Race means the use of one or more motor vehicles in an attempt to

    (1)

    Outgain or outdistance another vehicle or prevent another vehicle from passing; or

    (2)

    Arrive at a given destination ahead of another vehicle or vehicles.

    Exhibition of acceleration means the acceleration of a motor vehicle in such a manner as to cause the tire of the vehicle to excessively spin or loose traction.

    (b)

    Racing and exhibitions of acceleration prohibited.

    (1)

    It shall be unlawful for an operator of a motor vehicle to engage in a race as defined in subsection (a) above upon any street or highway within the City of Terrell.

    (2)

    It shall be unlawful for an operator of a motor vehicle to engage in any exhibition of acceleration as defined in subsection (b) above upon any street or highway within the City of Terrell.

    (c)

    Penalty. A person who violates any provision of subsection (b) above shall be guilty of a class C misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in an amount not exceeding $500.00.
