§ 11-41. Speed regulations.

(a)

State speed laws applicable. The state laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within the city except as modified under the provisions of subsection (b) hereafter.

Editor's note— V.T.C.A., Transportation Code § 545.352 provides that the maximum speed limit for streets in an urban district, such as Terrell, is generally 30 miles per hour.

(b)

Maximum speed limits on specific streets. The city council may alter the maximum speed limit established by the state traffic laws on any street or portion thereof within the city in accord with the provisions of Article 6701d, sections 169 and 170, Vernon's Annotated Civil Statutes. Whenever signs are posted giving notice of the maximum legal speed limit so established for a particular street or portion thereof, it shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate any vehicle at a rate of speed in excess of such limit.

(c)

School speed zones. It shall be unlawful for any person to drive in excess of 20 miles per hour between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. in the morning and 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, during school days only, on any portion of the following described city streets:

(1)

On South Rockwall Avenue from 50 feet south of the center line of Myers Street to 429 feet south of the center line of Hood Street;

(2)

On Myers Street from 85 feet west of the center line of South Rockwall Avenue, to 55 feet east of the center line of South Medora Street;

(3)

On South Medora Street from 85 feet north of the center line of Myers Street west, south to a point 330 feet south of the center line of Myers Street east;

(4)

On South Rockwall Avenue from 12 feet north of the north property line of John F. Kennedy Elementary School, same being the south line of the Phagan Addition, south to a point 50 feet north of the center line of Baker Street;

(5)

On Town North Drive from 450 feet east of the center line of Farm to Market Road 986, east to a point 740 feet west of Westgate Drive;

(6)

On North Virginia Street from 175 feet south of the center line of Greenwood Street, south to a point 167 feet south of the center line of Alamo Street west;

(7)

On Alamo Street from 160 feet west of the center line of North Catherine Street, east to a point 85 feet east of the center line of North Virginia Street;

(8)

On North Catherine Street from 93 feet north of the center line of Elm Street, south to a point 125 feet south of the center line of Alamo Street; and

(9)

On North Adelaide Street from 80 feet south of the center line of Alamo Street, north to it's intersection with Alamo Street.

On Brin Street from 25 feet west of the centerline of North Frances Street, to 189 feet west of the centerline of North Frances Street.

(11)

On West College Street from 40 feet west of the center line of North Frances Street, to 412 feet west of the center line of North Frances Street.
